Looking AheadThe WaveIf in the future your grandchildren ask you what you did to stop climate change, what will you tell them?
Do something while there’s still time: Later in December, in Copenhagen, world leaders meet for climate change talks which will effect people, especially the poor, for generations to come. We cannot take part in the talks, but we can make our voices heard. ‘The Wave’ gives the opportunity for Christians to be heard. Make sure you are able to join in! Depending on numbers we will either be joining others from the area travelling by coach, or will travel to London by train. More details will follow… If you are interested in taking part please sign the list after Mass or let Fr Paul or Sr Blanaid know. Tuesday Night @ Howard HouseThere is something happening at Howard House most Tuesday evenings. There is always food, and a range of serious and fun things happening. This Tuesday, at 6.30pm. there will be a Reflection on Advent, in anticipation of this special season. There will also be food! Everyone is welcome! Taizé Next SummerWe have a pilgrimage to the ecumenical community at Taizé at the end of the summer term. It is a wonderful experience which attracts young people from all over the world. If you are interested in going, and need a visa to enter France, please talk to Sr Blanaid as soon as possible. In the past students have been disappointed because their visas have not arrived in time, so apply early! Cafod Paul VI Memorial LectureThis year’s lecture is ‘Capitalism, Catholicism and community: harmony or dissonance?’ given by Baroness Williams of Crosby, on Friday 27th November in London. Tickets for students are only £4. Tickets are expected to go quickly, so please let Fr Paul know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending. Soup RunWe will be doing the Soup-Run this Thursday, 26th November. We leave from Howard House at 6.45pm. If you are interested in taking part please contact Fr Paul or Sr Blanaid as soon as possible. Wanted:Readers, musicians and singers for Sunday Mass – if you play an instrument, or enjoy singing, please get in touch! The SVP & Social ActionThe Chaplaincy is involved in several aspects of social action including helping with "soup-run" for the homeless, working with children with disabilities at Patcham House School, with the "Hand in Hand" performance group for people with learning disabilities, working with refugees through the "Voices in Exile" project, and volunteering in the SVP charity shop in Lewes Road. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to take part in activities so far. If you are would like to be involved, or would like to suggest additional activities, please let us know. We do all these activities under the umbrella of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, which provides insurance cover for those taking part in activities, and provides a forum for sharing experiences. It is planned that there will be meetings after Sunday Mass about twice a term to enable all those involved in our various charitable activities to share their experiences and to share ideas. CCRS@BrightonWhat do you know about your faith?
If you want to know more, CCRS@Brighton is for you. It continues this Thursday, 7pm-9pm in Howard House. It is a forum in which you can learn, discuss and explore your faith with others. Topics include Sacraments, Christian morality, the Church, Jesus Christ, and Scripture. The group has started with an exploration or the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. You can dip in and out of the programme as you please, but you must enrol on our website. Each module costs £25, but is free for students. You may choose to gain the formal qualification, the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies. Have you been Confirmed? The sacrament of confirmation completes our initiation as a member of the Church. It makes us a full adult member of the Church and helps us live out lives in accordance with the will of God. That is why Catholics are required to have been confirmed before they marry. If, for any reason, you have not been confirmed, but are interested in receiving the sacrament, please talk to Fr Paul. The Howard LibraryHoward House is the home of the Howard Library, a lending library of books on theology and a wide range of religious and other books. It may be used by any students and staff of our two universities and other serious students. Do come and see what we have. Page Last Modified on Monday the 23rd of November 2009 at 10:20:59 PST |
